Parish Councils have the right to be notified of planning applications in their area (Town
& County Planning Act 1990, schedule 1, Para 8) but a limited timescale within which to
comment on planning applications. The Parish Council should respond within that time
limit to ensure that the local voice is heard.
Councils should comment in the light of the policies contained within the Local Plan
(LDF). The Planning Authority cannot refuse an application, which is supported by these
policies.
Councils should ensure that their comments are not subjective or emotional. They
should address only material i.e. genuine planning issues.
The Campaign to protect Rural England has created a website to help people use the
new planning system to shape their environment.

Hockliffe Parish Council has a Planning committee with 3 members with delegated
authority to consider and respond to planning applications and Local Development Plan
documents received from the Planning Authority.
All Planning Meetings are open to the public, so the public is fully aware of what is being
discussed. Members of the public can also send their views to the Planning Authority
directly in addition to visiting Central Council and asking to see plans there, but this
does not affect the right to listen to the debate at Parish level and hear how the parish
reaches its view on a planning application.
Planning Meetings will take place at Hockliffe Lower School, Woburn Road, Hockliffe.
Any Meetings/Agenda's are publicised giving at least 3 clear days notice. Meetings are
on an adhoc basis due to the number of applications received. Any Meetings would be
on a Monday at 7pm.
